NEW DATES ANNOUNCED FOR TOKYO GAMES
March 30, 2020Paralympic Games to take place August 24 to September 5, 2021
Ottawa, ON – In an announcement today, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, International Olympic Committee and Internationally Paralympic Committee released the postponed dates for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2021. The Paralympic Games will take place August 24 to September 5, preceded by the Olympic Games from July 23 to August 8.
Canada’s wheelchair rugby team secured qualification for the 2020 Paralympic Games earlier this month, by defeating Colombia in a playoff match at the 2020 IWRF Paralympic Qualification tournament in Richmond, BC.
WRC Statement Regarding the Postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games
Wheelchair Rugby Canada commends the decision by the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, International Olympic Committee and Internationally Paralympic Committee to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Games.
We believe this decision is both necessary and a precaution that had to be taken in order to safeguard the health and well-being of the athletes and everyone involved in the Tokyo 2020 Games, which is of the utmost importance.
As the national governing body for the sport of wheelchair rugby in the Canada, WRC will continue to be in close communication with our stakeholders and partners regarding developments related to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympics.
