Austin MacLellan

Biography

Previously a wheelchair basketball player, Austin MacLellan was introduced to wheelchair rugby when his basketball team was invited to join a short-handed rugby practice. What began as an opportunity to try a new sport soon became a form of cross-training as he continued to pursue wheelchair basketball.

After attending a Team Canada prospect camp in 2022, MacLellan began taking wheelchair rugby more seriously, competing at his first National Championships later that year. He earned his first national team selection in 2025 and made his international debut that same year at the World Challenge in Australia.

MacLellan was named Best in Class at the 2026 Canada Cup and will make his World Wheelchair Rugby Championships debut this August. He will also become the first athlete from New Brunswick to represent Canada at a Wheelchair Rugby World Championships.
