Wheelchair Rugby Paralympic Guide

August 19, 2021Wheelchair Rugby Canada (WRC) presents the complete guide to wheelchair rugby at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.  Beginning August 25th, 8 teams will compete in two pools.  Canada, ranked 5th internationally, will open the tournament against Great Britain (ranked 4th internationally).

Wheelchair Rugby Paralympic Guide

 Ottawa, August 19th, 2021 – Wheelchair Rugby Canada (WRC) presents the complete guide to wheelchair rugby at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.  Beginning August 25th, 8 teams will compete in two pools.  Canada, ranked 5th internationally, will open the tournament against Great Britain (ranked 4th internationally).

Pool A: Australia (1st); Japan (3rd); France (6th); Denmark (7th)

Pool B: USA (2nd); Great Britain (4th); Canada (5th); New Zealand (8th)

In a 3-game, round-robin format, Canada competes in Pool B against USA, Great Britain, and New Zealand. Standings are determined by points with teams awarded 2 points for a win, 0 points for losses, and 1 point for a tie at the end of regulation. In the event of a tie, 3-minute overtime(s) will commence until a winner is decided. The winning team is credited an additional point. The top 2 teams in each pool will advance to the Semifinals.

*Evening August 28th game-start Western Canada.

 

Gold Medal Game
