Canada Perfect in Opening Day of Tri Nations

Wheelchair Rugby Canada (WRC) opened their Tri Nations tournament defeating the reigning Paralympic champions Great Britain, 51-47. Canada took Game 1 with ease having won each of the first three quarters and leading by 10 through 24 minutes of action.

“I think we’ve spent a lot of time working on the key moments of games, so it was great to see us execute,” said Travis Murao. “I think we can expect both teams we’re playing to make adjustments and to run different line combinations, so it’s up to us to really stick to our style of play to control the tempo of games no matter what happens.”

In their second match, the Canadians defeated the United States 50-42.

“We had a good start but didn’t get the bounces early,” said Coach Côté. “USA had to use a couple timeouts and we kept the pressure up. We eventually started to create to convert more. Still a very long to go in the tournament, so it’s just important to have a good rest, and stick to plan.”

Canada resumes action on Thursday, stream the event on Youtube.
