Wheelchair Rugby Canada (WRC) is seeking Expressions of Interest from members of the wheelchair rugby community interested in contributing to the continued development of the sport in Canada. 

WRC is recruiting members for two committees: the Match Officials Committee (MOC) and the Domestic Programs Committee (DPC). 

Both committees play an important role in supporting the growth, development and delivery of wheelchair rugby across the country, bringing together perspectives and expertise from different areas of the sport. 

Match Officials Committee 

WRC is recruiting for all positions on the Match Officials Committee. 

The MOC guides and influences the development, recruitment, retention and advancement of wheelchair rugby match officials in Canada, including officials pursuing opportunities at the international level. 

The committee will contribute to areas including:

• Developing national education, certification, professional development and mentorship opportunities for match officials
•  Supporting the recruitment, recognition and retention of match officials 
• Recommending match officials for national championship appointments and international development opportunities
• Providing technical advice and support to WRC, clubs, Provincial Sport Organizations and competition host committees
• Reviewing and recommending changes, interpretations or adaptations to the rules governing wheelchair rugby in Canada 
• Supporting the development of a national pathway for match officials 

Who Should Apply? 

The Match Officials Committee is seeking individuals with experience and knowledge related to match officiating and the broader wheelchair rugby system. Applicants may include: 

• Match officials 
• Club representatives 
• Provincial Sport Organization representatives
• National Team athletes or athlete representatives
• Individuals with relevant experience in match official development, education or administration

Individuals interested in serving as Chairperson should also indicate this in their Expression of Interest. 

Domestic Programs Committee 

The DPC guides and influences the development of wheelchair rugby in Canada, with a focus on domestic development and competition, including the rules and regulations governing the sport. 

The committee contributes to areas including: 

• Reviewing the national competition structure and making recommendations to support healthy growth and development at all levels 
• Reviewing rules, regulations and technical packages governing wheelchair rugby in Canada
• Supporting the development of clubs and alignment between WRC, PSOs and clubs
• Reviewing National Championship bids and providing recommendations to WRC
• Supporting National Championship host committees 
• Evaluating annual Podium Club applications and recommending funding based on systemic priorities
• Reviewing the national infrastructure and resources required to support the sport 
• Providing input into WRC’s strategic planning for domestic programs, technical programs and competition 

Who Should Apply? 

The Domestic Programs Committee is seeking individuals who can bring perspectives from across the domestic wheelchair rugby system, particularly from clubs and Provincial Sport Organizations. 

WRC is currently recruiting:

One Provincial Sport Organization Representative 

One Chairperson 

Applicants should have a strong understanding of the domestic wheelchair rugby landscape and an interest in contributing to areas such as competition, club development, technical programming and the continued growth of the sport in Canada. 

Individuals interested in serving as Chairperson should indicate this in their Expression of Interest. 

How to Submit an Expression of Interest 

Interested individuals should submit an email to Avery Lightfoot at alightfoot@wheelchairrugby.ca with the following information: 

• Committee of interest: Identify which committee you are interested in joining. 
• Your involvement in wheelchair rugby: Describe your current role or roles in the sport, including if you hold multiple roles. 
• Chairperson interest: Indicate whether you are interested in serving as Chairperson of the committee. 
• Your interest and experience: In 2–4 sentences, explain why you are interested in joining the committee and what you would bring to the role. 

WRC encourages members of the wheelchair rugby community with a range of experiences and perspectives to consider putting their name forward.
