Biography
William McCreight was born in Merritt, B.C., and relocated to Kamloops in 2013 to pursue a career as an electrician. In 2016, at the age of 22, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in a C6-7 spinal cord injury.
During his recovery at the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre in Vancouver, McCreight was introduced to the documentary Murderball by his recreation therapist. That same year, he attended the 2016 Canada Cup as a spectator and was instantly drawn to the sport of wheelchair rugby. Inspired by the athletes and the energy of the game, he began playing in 2017 as a way to gain independence, travel, and connect with others who shared similar experiences.
McCreight earned a spot on the British Columbia provincial team in 2018. The following year, he competed in his first national championships and received his classification. In 2022, his team won gold in the Nationals B Division, where he was recognized as the best player in his classification (1.0).
In 2024, McCreight was internationally classified at the USA International Development Tournament. He made his international debut in 2025 at the Santos Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge in Adelaide, Australia.
Off the court, McCreight works as a Bridging the Gap Coordinator with the British Columbia Wheelchair Sports Association. In his spare time, he can be found spending time in his garden.
